Board Objectives

First created 11 September 2009

Owner Board Policy Review Task Group
Stakeholders Board members, CEO
Child Safety National Principles 1-10

Summary #

  1. This Objectives Policy has been prepared, taking into account John Carver’s Policy Governance philosophy to reflect the Board’s values, state how the Association, being a Christian organisation, should affect the wider community, and indicate what the Board considers to be worthwhile outcomes.
  2. The Board’s Objectives statements are subject to the Board’s ongoing consideration, debate, and review, as it considers what good the Association can accomplish, for which people or needs, and at what cost. They reflect the Board’s calling to ensure that the organisation produces economically justifiable, properly chosen, well-targeted results. Outcomes statements do not aim to instruct the CEO or the organisation on how to do their job; only to set out the outcomes the Board expects.
  3. This first-level outcomes policy is a statement of the Board’s vision. It does not determine everything about the Association’s intended outcomes, but it defines the arena and attempts to answer these two simple questions:
    1. What is the Association for, and
    2. How will the world be different as a result of the Association being in existence?
  4. The Objectives Policy has been developed at the first level to provide a broad summary. Further detail is found in section 3 of this policy.
  5. Doctrinal Statements means both the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Three Forms of Unity, these statements establishing the standards of Biblical interpretation at the College. The Westminster Confession of Faith is a doctrinal statement adopted by Reformed Protestant denominations since 1646. It reflects the same theological framework as the Three Forms of Unity (which consists of the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort).

Review Cycle #

The Board approved this policy at its meeting held 4 May 2026. It is to be reviewed every three years by a Board-appointed Policy Review Task Group.

Objectives #

  1. Rehoboth Christian College is a Christian organisation. It exists to advance the Christian religion through the provision of a distinctly Christian education and religious instruction, in a Christ-centred environment in which the spiritual, academic, social, and physical development of the individual can be fostered in harmony with the home and church.
  2. Recognising that children are a gift from God, and that parents are tasked as primarily responsible for the education of their children, the Board, on behalf of the Association, seeks to establish and maintain schools for children where they may obtain the highest standard of education consistent with a Reformed interpretation of Scripture, in order to equip them to take a worthy place as Christians in church, state, and society. Accordingly, the Board has developed the following objectives:

Quality, Christ-Centred Education #

  1. Quality Christ-centred schooling is to be consistently provided.
  2. An appropriate range of subjects is to be offered at all levels.
  3. State-assigned curriculum standards are to be met or exceeded.
  4. The curriculum is to be interpreted through a Biblical worldview in accordance with the Doctrinal Statements.
  5. All staff must be committed Christians and be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality Christ-centred teaching based on a Biblical worldview and the Doctrinal Statements.
  6. The Board is committed to providing professional development for staff to achieve these objectives.

Parent Partnership #

  1. Parents are supported in the spiritual nurturing of their children through the provision of quality Christian schooling from a Reformed perspective.
  2. The education provided by the Association is to be in harmony with that of the Christian home and is to help provide a consistency and unity to the child’s total education obtained from home, church, and school.
  3. The education provided by the Association is firmly based on the covenant of grace and salvation which God has established with Christian parents and their children.
  4. Parents control the character and direction of the education provided by the school, subjecting themselves to the Biblical absolutes accepted as the basis of the Association.
  5. Parental control of the Association is communal and not individual. The control exercised by parents is administered representatively through the Board.
  6. Parents are supported in the spiritual nurturing of their children through the provision of quality Christian schooling that is consistent with a Biblical worldview and the Doctrinal Statements.
  7. The education provided by the Association is to be in harmony with that of the Christian home and is to help provide a consistency and unity to the child’s total education obtained from home, church, and school.
  8. The education provided by the Association is firmly based on the covenant of grace and salvation which God has established with Christian parents and their children.
  9. In their capacity as members of the Association, parents govern the character and direction of the education provided by the school, subjecting themselves to the Biblical absolutes which are described in the Doctrinal Statements and accepted as the basis of the Association.
  10. Parental governance of the Association is communal and not individual. The governance exercised by parents is administered representatively through the Board.

Children View the World as God's World #

  1. The Biblical revelation of God, creation, humanity, sin, Christ, the Holy Spirit, redemption, and restoration must pervade the whole curriculum.
  2. The education provided by the Association demonstrates that no area of life can be considered neutral, where Christ is not Lord and King.

Children Think and Act in a Christian Way #

The education provided by the Association will aim to help the child to think and act in a Christian way with a Biblical worldview in all areas of life.

Encourage Children to Serve Christ in Their Chosen Life Roles and Careers #

  1. The Association seeks to equip children with the necessary skills and abilities to take a worthy and productive place in church, state, and society.
  2. The education offered by the Association will aim to demonstrate how all life’s roles and careers can be used for the glory of God.

At Rehoboth Christian College, we are busy discovering God’s story for us. It is a story about how He has provided a safe, secure environment for Christian families to send their children to be educated; a place where students are taught to think Christianly about the world and their place in it. Rehoboth was also only the second school of its kind in Australia at its opening; a school where Jesus Christ was to be honoured as Lord of all.
