Overview #
Rehoboth Christian College supports the ongoing professional development of all employees and seeks to ensure it maintains a professional and highly skilled workforce. The College’s current professional development programs enables teachers to continually develop their teaching practice and understanding of Christian Worldview and Education. The addition of the ‘current and emerging leaders’ training and professional development program will encourage staff who have a long-term future at the College to strengthen and develop their understanding of the heart of leadership, best practice content and personal leadership character development.
The purpose of this policy is to outline the procedures for the current and emerging leaders training and development program at the College and provide guidelines to relevant staff.

Procedures #
- It is recommended that each year 2-3 current or emerging leaders (junior or senior) from each School are chosen to participate in the program. This will be an ongoing program for the duration of their employment at Rehoboth. Staff will be provided with reading material to take home and study. The reading material will focus on best practice content for leadership development while the professional development days will focus on their personal leadership development.
- The professional development days will be conducted in a retreat-style setting for 1-2 days per term. It is recommended the College make use of Called Connected Committed: 24 Leadership Practices for Educational Leaders, developed by the Church of England Education Office as part of its foundation for educational leadership resources. These leadership practices have deep roots in the Bible and seek to develop inspirational leaders who are called, connected, and committed to Christ-centred education. Designed as a leadership practices matrix, there are a number of resources to draw on for self-reflection, team analysis, and appraisal.
- Each professional development day we will aim to tackle one of the 24 leadership practices. One of the members of the Senior Leadership Team or an external trainer will be chosen to facilitate a discussion in a one-on-one, ‘intimate’ manner that staff will have the opportunity to engage with.
